Literacy 4/5
1. Good morning, Grade 4/5. Let's start off this morning with some Word Work. Make a list of words that contain the letters "be." For example, bell, being, best. Try to make a list of 15. If you're able to easily find 15 words, try to make a list up to 20.
"I can spell grade appropriate words."
2. Click on this link to listen to a story.
3. Let's do some writing. Here's the prompt:
You get to design a dream house. Describe it!
I would like this writing to be at least 1/2 page, however you can write more if you wish. Remember to use paragraphs for each idea. Don't forget to indent. There will be no writing assigned tomorrow as I would like you to focus on this assignment. I would also like you to do a rough copy first and then a good copy. It's important that we keep following our writing procedures. Here's an "I can" statement to keep in mind:
"I can check my work for meaning and to make sure I stay on topic."
Make sure you write about your house. A paragraph all about video games, for example, wouldn't fit into this writing.
4. Let's end off today's lesson with some reading. Please read for 30 minutes. It would be great if you could read some of your book aloud to someone in your house as reading aloud is an important skill. Here is an "I can" statement to guide you:
"I can read fluently, clearly and accurately at an appropriate rate with meaning and expression.
Math 4/5
1. Let's start with a warm-up using mental math strategies. Please write down these questions. Do the calculations in your head and then write down the answers. Next to the answer, write how you found the answer.
"I can describe and apply mental math strategies."
a. 19 + 15 + 21 + 3 =
b. 190 + 200 + 15 + 10 =
c. 270 + 200 + 30 =
2. Last week, I provided a link to a division tables page. Please take 10 minutes and study your division facts, perhaps by writing them down. I would suggest writing each fact 5 times.
3. Please take 10 minutes and study your times tables facts.
4. If possible, perhaps someone at home can quiz you on a few questions.
5. Click on this link and complete four online quizzes, two on multiplication and two on division.
6. Let's finish with a word problem. Please copy the question in your notebook/duotang. Show all your work.
School A raised $ 3241.83 for a charity. School B raised $ 3432.83 for the same charity. What is the total combined amount that was raised?
Science 4/5
1. Last week, I asked you to make a list of the plants and animals that live in your local habitat. I'm sure you came up with some great lists. Here's an example of another one:
My Local Habitat
-cardinals
-ants
-toads
-hummingbirds
-bees
2. Now, with your list as a guide, write a paragraph about how you and your family impact your local habitat. You should be able to answer "Yes" to the following statement when you are done:
"I can identify my own and my family's impact on habitats and describe how personal actions help conserve habitats."
So, when we say "impact on your local habitat," what do we mean? Think back to last week, when we made a chart of positive and negative effects of technological development on habitats. This is a similar activity, but thinking about the impact and effects potentially caused by us. Please list the impacts you and your family have on habitats in one chart, instead of dividing it into positive and negative impacts. We'll proceed further tomorrow. Good luck!
4. Don't forget to get 30 minutes of physical activity.

Literacy 4/5
1. Let's start this morning with some Word Work. Make a list of words that contain "ot". For example, total, boat, motion. Try to make a list of 15 words. If you can make a list of 15 words easily, try to make a list of 20 words.
"I can spell grade appropriate words."
2. Yesterday, I asked you to do a writing about your dream house. If you're done your rough copy (1/2 page), we can begin the editing process. Yesterday, I had asked that as you write, you stay on topic:
"I can check my work for meaning and to make sure I stay on topic."
As you edit your first copy, make sure that your writing has stayed on topic. Check for proper use of capitalization and indented paragraphs. If possible, have someone at home proof-read your work now. They might be able to find areas of improvement.
Once you've made all the changes to your first copy, go ahead and write the good copy. If you want, draw and colour a picture of your house below your writing.
3. Please click on www.storylineonline.net and listen to a story.
4. Please read for 30 minutes.
Math 4/5
1. Please take 10 minutes and study your division facts.
2. Please take 10 minutes and study your multiplication facts.
"I can determine multiplication and division facts."
3. Please do go to www.coolmath4kids.com/quizzes and complete four quizzes, two on multiplication and two on division.
4. Copy these questions into your notebook/duotang and answer them using mental math strategies. Write down next to your answer what strategies you used:
a. 110 + 91 + 220 + 79 =
b. 550 + 55 + 100 + 25 =
c. 11 + 29 + 35 + 10 =
d. 1000 + 1200 + 840 + 60 =
"I can describe and apply mental math strategies."
Science 4/5
1. Yesterday, I asked you to write about how you and your family impact your local habitat:
"I can identify my own and my family's impact on habitats and describe how personal actions help conserve habitats."
Re-read your paragraph from yesterday. Below your paragraph, make a chart. One side should say Positive Impacts and the other side should say Negative Impacts. Now list on your chart which of the impacts you believe are "Positive" and which are "Negative". Once you are done, what do you think of the results? Were there any negatives? More positives than negatives? Did the chart have an equal number of each?
2. That's it for today. Don't forget to get 30 minutes of physical activity.

1. Good morning, Grade 4/5. Let's start with some Word Work. Make a list of words that contain the letters "er." Try to make a list of 15. If you're able to that easily, make a list of 20.
"I can spell grade appropriate words."
2. Click on www.storylineonline.net and listen to a story.
3. On Monday, we started our writing on a dream house. Hopefully by now you've checked over the first draft done. Remember, it should be 1/2 page in length. As I mentioned yesterday, if you finish your good copy, you can draw a picture of your house below. It's also good practice to read the finished version to someone at home.
"I can deliver organized oral presentations using comoplete sentences, a clear voice, adequate volume, gestures, and eye contact."
4. Let's finish our Literacy lesson today with 30 minutes of reading. Remember to vary the types of books you read.
"I can read many kinds of books: fiction/non-fiction."
Math 4/5
1. Let's start off Math with some warm-up questions. Please copy these down and answer them using mental math strategies. Write down the strategies you used next to your answers.
"I can describe and apply mental math strategies."
a. 259 + 60 + 50 =
b. 690 - 320 - 100 =
c. 1575 - 400 - 5 - 70 =
2. Let's work on division and multiplication facts. Please spend 10 minutes on each.
3. Click on www.coolmath4kids.com/quizzes and complete four quizzes, two on mutliplication and two on division.
4. Please copy and answer this word problem:
Car A drove 100 km/h for three hours. Car B drove 90 km/h for four hours. Which car drove the furthest? You can use diagrams if you wish to help you solve the problem.
Science 4/5
1. Yesterday, I had asked you to look at your writing about you and your family's impact on your local habitat and decide if the effects were positive or negative.
"I can identify my own and my family's impact on habitats and describe how personal actions help conserve habitats."
Your assignment for today is to write about what you could do to change any negative impacts. This writing should be 1/2 page in length. If you had no negative impacts, think about negative impacts that you have seen somewhere else. How could they be changed?
2. That's it for today. Don't forget to get 30 minutes of physical activity.

Science 4/5
1. Yesterday you wrote about how any possible negative impacts could be changed in your local habitat.
"I can identify my own and my family's impact on habitats, and describe how personal actions help conserve habitats."
If you can, read your writing aloud to someone at your house.
For our next assignment, you will need to choose an animal that lives in your local habitat and do some research about it. You will then put your research into your own words and complete a 1/2 page write-up. At the bottom of the page, please make a drawing of the animal. Here are some things you could research about the animal you choose:
