Literacy 4/5
1. Good morning, Grade 4/5. You've probably finished your persuasive writing by now. Once it is done, I would like you to read it aloud to practice your reading and speaking skills.
"I can deliver organized oral presentations using complete sentences, a clear voice, and adequate volume."
"I can vary pitch, tone, and volume in read alouds."
2. Let's work on some Word Work. Please make a list of words that have the combination of letters "gh". As always, try to make a list of 10, and if that's too easy, try to make a list of 15 or 20. Good luck!
"I can spell grade appropriate words."
3. Click on www.storylineonline.net and choose a story to listen to.
4. Please read for 30 minutes at some point today. I would like you to read aloud for 10 minutes of this time.
Math 4/5
1. Both grades have been studying times tables and division facts during our online learning. The Grade 4s and Grade 5s will start to work on dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number this week (which is a revision of the studying you have been doing). Please copy these questions and answer them in your notebook/duotang. If you haven't memorized them yet, here is a strategy to use:
48 ÷ 6 =
We can solve this by using partial answers. We break the question down into smaller parts and then add all the partial answers together. So, if you're not sure what 48 ÷ 6 is, can you think of another number that can be divided by 6 that is less than 48? What about 24?
So, 24 ÷ 6 = 4. Set the 4 aside because we will use it later. Now subtract 24 from 48 because we already divided 24 ones from the 48 we started with.
48 - 24 = 24
Then, divide the other 24 by 6. The answer is 4. Now add both 4s together. The final answer is 8.
48 ÷ 6 = 8
a. 36 ÷ 6 =
b. 42 ÷ 7 =
c. 35 ÷ 5 =
d. 30 ÷ 3 =
e. 14 ÷ 7 =
f. 21 ÷ 7 =
g. 25 ÷ 5 =
h. 32 ÷ 8 =
i. 18 ÷ 9 =
j. 81 ÷ 9 =
Science 4/5
1. Last week, you researched a plant that lives in your local habitat. Below are the guiding research questions.
-Where does it live besides your local habitat? (in Canada, in North America?)
-How long does it live?
-Are there any animals that use the plant for food or shelter?
-Is the plant endangered in any way by human activity?
-Why did you choose this plant?
This week, I would like you to work on your writing about the plant you chose. It should be between one paragraph and 1/2 page in length (single-spaced). You should write a rough copy first and check it for errors and then complete a good copy.
"I can identify questions to investigate about the types of plants and/or animals at a local habitat, and the conditions under which they live."
2. Don't forget to get 30 minutes of physical activity today.
